working on Responsible AI, Algorithmic Fairness/Bias, and Social Impact Data Science

BIO

I’m currently an Associate Research Professor at University of Chicago’s Data Science Institute.

Prior to this, I was a Research Lead and Sr. Staff ML Researcher at Twitter on the ML Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability (META) team, where I focused on building metrics for and operationalizing Twitter’s internal responsible ML initiative. Prior to that, I spent a year as faculty in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania, and prior to that, I was the Lead Statistician at the Human Rights Data Analysis Group, where I led our project on algorithmic bias in the US Criminal Justice system. (Yes, I’ve changed jobs quite a bit.)

I’m also a Co-founder of ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (FAccT), which has grown to be one of the primary venues for research on fairness and bias in sociotechnical systems, and a frequent public (and sometimes keynote) speaker.

Site very much a work in progress; some remnants of the template remain.
